The Chairman had given all members a copy of all the documents which relate to the running of the Recreation Ground Trustees Charity together with a copy of the covering letter about the documents received from the Charity Commission.  Mr M Simper thanked the Chairman for his work in this matter.

Report from Chairman of Recreation Ground & Open Spaces

6. contd.

Mr Christopher reported on the interest and support from the old and the young in a MUGA which could be used by all age groups.  This had been discussed at a recent Local Action Group meeting and a small “focus” group formed to look into potential sites and funding.  He had also been in touch with a potential supplier.  It was explained that a MUGA could be used for a large variety of ball games and could cost £100,000.  There is a MUGA at Moore Avenue, Winton achieved within a Community Partnership scheme.

/contd.

It was noted that this facility would not be the responsibility of the Trustees and we were not in a position to apply for funding.  However, Mr Irving pointed out that previous actions by the Trustees regarding the children’s play area might mean that the Trust could apply for a Lottery grant and be a driving force in the project.  Mr Simper pointed out that in this instance the Trust would be starting from scratch as it had no Treasurer and no bank account.  Mr Dedden reminded the Trustees that there was the matter of the £10,000 account limit. [ref: item 2 a) of these Minutes]

Mr Christopher was asked to bring to the next meeting a scaled plan and superimposed photo to see if the Recreation Ground could be considered a potential location.  If agreed by the Trustees, there would need to be full public consultation.

Any Other Business.

a)

b)

Mr Simper drew members’ attention to the fact that the Chairman and Secretary would be standing down at the AGM in October.  He was willing to stay on as Vice Chairman, but a new Chairman would be required.

Mr Christopher stated that he and the Youth Leader, Phil Cox, were working with young people to encourage them clear up any rubbish they make in the Recreation Ground.

Meeting closed at 8.05pm

8.

Public Contribution

Mrs Pam Reeks stated that she supported the idea of a MUGA in the Recreation Ground.  She had recently spoken with a group of 12 year olds who, although they had bikes, were not allowed to go down to Potterne Park on their own.

She was concerned that currently children learning to ride their bikes cannot practice in the Recreation Ground because of the “no cycling” ruling.  She would also like to see a winding footpath round the edge and toilet facilities that were open at weekends.

She requested that attention be given to the north-east corner of the Recreation Ground where uncleaned ditches are causing water to run on the pathway in Upper Vicarage Road and into the Recreation Ground itself.  This will be reported to the Town Clerk.
